BGMEA President calls for government support to RMG sector to prepare for next level of growth

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan met with Senior Secretary of the Finance Ministry Abdur Rouf Talukder at the Secretariat on March 3.

They had discussion the on present business situation, especially hurdles being faced by the RMG industry and possible measures to deal with the challenges. 

They also discussed the concern regarding the impacts of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict on trade and possible measures to deal with them.

Drawing attention to the pressing issues of the RMG industry, Faruque Hassan said the sector is now at crossroads – having enormous opportunities at one side and huge challenges on the other side. 

Against such backdrop, pragmatic and far-reaching measures and support of the government are required to help the industry to remain competitive and also to prepare for the next level of growth, he said.

Faruque Hassan pointed out to the issues of graduation of Bangladesh from LDC and its possible implications on export-oriented trade and preparedness of the industry to face the challenges.

He sought the support of the government in making business procedures simplified for the apparel industry in order to retain competitiveness in the global market. 

He urged the government to keep business-friendly steps in the upcoming budget to facilitate the growth of the apparel industry.

Senior Secretary of the Finance Ministry Abdur Rouf Talukder took note the issues placed by the BGMEA President and assured him of taking the matters to the highest level of the government.
