BGMEA President emphasizes on nutrition for good health and better productivity

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan stressed the need for changing poor dietary habits and improving nutritional status of workers to ensure good health and boost individual and factory-level efficiency and productivity.

He made the remark while addressing a seminar on workforce nutrition organized by the Department of Inspection for Factories & Establishments (DIFE) in association with Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) at a hotel in Dhaka on November 28.  

Honorable State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian MP attended the event as chief guest. The event was chaired by Labour and Employment Secretary Md. Ehsan-E-Elahi.

In his address Faruque Hassan said BGMEA has placed utmost importance to ensuring healthcare facilities for RMG workers.

“BGMEA has been operating 12 health centers at different parts of Dhaka and Chittagong with a view to providing basic healthcare facilities to garment workers at free of cost. BGMEA also runs a hospital in Chittagong for the workers,” he said.

BGMEA in collaboration with the government and development partners has been implementing various projects for ensuring workers’ health.   

With the government of Bangladesh, BGMEA has been implementing a project to provide financial support to lactating female garment workers. The lactating mothers need special care, more nutrition and higher calorie as they require more energy in bringing up the newborn babies with sound health, he said.

BGMEA has taken various steps including factory health and safety protocols, telemedicine, collaboration with Maya, CommonHealth to protect the workers and the industry from the ongoing pandemic.
