In a festive and joyful atmosphere, Book Festival 2026 was celebrated today, Wednesday (7 January), at BGMEA School, Chattogram. On the very first day of the new academic year, students were delighted to receive new government textbooks free of cost.
The chief guest of the programme was BGMEA Vice President Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury. The special guest and inaugurator of the Book Festival was Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, Director, BGMEA Chattogram Region and Director-in-Charge of BGMEA School. Speakers at the event included former BGMEA Director Khandaker Belayet Hossain, Chairman of the BGMEA Standing Committee on School Affairs Arshad Ur Rahman, committee members Kazi Shafiqul Islam Titu and Nurul Islam Chowdhury Utpal, along with teachers, guardians, and senior BGMEA officials.
In his address, Vice President Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury said that books are the primary tool for building an enlightened society. Receiving new books at the beginning of the year motivates students to be more attentive and inspired in their studies. He noted that BGMEA School was established as part of BGMEA’s social responsibility initiatives, founded in 2005 through the sincere efforts of the then First Vice President Mohammad Abdus Salam. He also mentioned plans to relocate and expand the school to a larger and more pleasant environment in an area densely inhabited by garment workers.
Speaking as the special guest, BGMEA Director Enamul Aziz Chowdhury said that BGMEA bears all educational expenses of the students, including learning materials, shoes, socks, school bags, uniforms, and snacks. He assured that school uniforms would again be distributed within a very short time this year. On behalf of his family charity, Sohel Samad Memorial Scholarship, he announced a monthly stipend of BDT 5,000 for former meritorious student Mamun Ur Rahman, currently studying at Noakhali Government Medical College, until the completion of his MBBS degree.
Chairman of the BGMEA Standing Committee on School Affairs Arshad Ur Rahman said that BGMEA School continues to play an important role in ensuring quality education for underprivileged communities, fostering moral values, and developing future generations as skilled human resources.
BGMEA School’s respected member and Managing Director of CTG Four Brothers Apparels Ltd., Nurul Islam Chowdhury Utpal, along with Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, pledged their direct support to provide all components of school uniforms to all students this year.
