An important introductory and evaluation meeting was recently held under the initiative of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) TB Control Program. The meeting was organized under the supervision of Nurul Tapan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on TB Control and Dengue, where detailed discussions took place on the overall activities of the program, staff performance, and future plans.
Among those present at the meeting were BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, Director Kazi Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Health Care Safina Rahman, and Chairman of BGMEA Health Centre, Mirpur, Khandaker Mahidur Rahman Shahin. Also in attendance were the TB Control Program’s Project Manager Dr. Nawreen Zaman Nipu, M&E Officer Taifur Islam, Accounts Officer Shamsul Islam, along with field-level staff and laboratory technicians.
During the meeting, an overview of the targets set and achievements made over the past two years was presented. Special emphasis was placed on the success of factory-based screening activities, patient identification, ensuring regular treatment, and awareness programs. At the same time, constructive discussions were held on possible additional measures that BGMEA could take to further enhance the effectiveness of the program in the future.
Particular importance was given to strengthening early detection, quality treatment, and follow-up activities to ensure health protection for workers in the RMG sector. Emphasis was also placed on eliminating misconceptions about tuberculosis among workers and facilitating easier access to regular healthcare services.
It is noteworthy that the TB Control Program, operating under BGMEA’s supervision since 2010, has been achieving consistent success. For more than a decade, this initiative has been playing a vital role in safeguarding the health of thousands of workers in the RMG sector.
