BGMEA appreciates move to construct much-awaited elevated expressway from Ashulia to Baipal

Construction of the much-awaited elevated expressway from Ashulia to Baipal is going to start while the highway from Ashulia to Baipal will be also ungraded from 2 to 4 lanes. Bridge Division Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam informed this when BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman met him at his office to discuss various problems related to road transport in Ashulia, Zirabo and Baipla areas.
BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister and the Honorable Minister for Road Transport and Bridges for this timely initiative of constructing the elevated expressway and highway upgradation from Ashulia to Baipal.
The BGMEA President informed the Bridges Division Secretary that construction of the elevated expressway and upgradation of the highway will ease traffic congestion and reduce accident rates in Ashulia-Baipal areas. Moreover, it will benefit around 8 lac workers of 350 garment factories situated in the areas and also expedite production process in the apparel manufacturing units. It is mentionable here that the incumbent President of BGMEA Md. Siddiqur Rahman has been pursuing the issue of the highway upgradation with successive governments for the last 15/16 years.
It is also mentionable here that earlier it was decided that the elevated expressway would be built on the 2-lane the highway from Ashulia to Baipal without extension of the highway. Against this backdrop, the BGMEA President after holding discussions at the policy-making level has been able to pursue the government that upgradation of the Ashulia-Baipal highway to 4 lanes is possible with a low budget and without land acquisition. Besides, the traffic movement in the 2-lane road highway would become suspended during construction of the expressway if it is not upgraded to 4 lanes. Hence, extension of the highway would make it possible to construct the elevated expressway without causing disruption to traffic movement.
BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman also laid emphasis on the importance of upgradation of the highway from Abdullahpur, Tongi to Gazipur Chowrasta to 6 lanes. The Bridges Division Secretary informed that the government would construct a flyover from Abdullahpur to Cherag Ali Market
