Bangladesh has achieved a paradigm shift in workplace safety and worker rights in its apparel industry over the last five years, BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman said.
"The world has witnessed how the ready-made garment industry of Bangladesh has addressed challenges and become a model of workplace safety," he said while speaking at a press conference organized by BGMEA at its office to brief the media about the developments in the industry  after the tragic Rana Plaza incident in 2013.
BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir and Directors of BGMEA were also present at the press conference.
The BGMEA President said that all export-oriented apparel factories have been inspected for structural, fire and electrical safety by ACCORD, ALLIANCE and National Initiative. Remediation progress is around 88% in the ACCORD affiliated factories and 90% in the factories under the Alliance.
Bangladesh has also made major stride in green industrialization and now has 67 LEED green factories certified by USGBC with 14 LEED Platinum rated factories. Around 280 factories have been registered for certification, he informed the press.
