From Garment Worker to Graduate

The ready-made garment industry has been making a difference to millions of lives, especially women in Bangladesh. The employment in the RMG sector has earned women dignity in their families, given them the freedom to make decisions, and above all, pursue their dreams. BGMEA in collaboration with Asian University for Women (AWU), under the ‘Pathways for Promise’ program, paves the way for exceptionally talented female workers from Bangladesh’s garment factories to pursue their dream of higher education. Already over 100 girls, who are RMG workers, are studying at AUW free of cost with support from their respective employers. During the years of studying, the factory authorities pay regular monthly salary to the workers enrolled in AUW so that their families do not face any hardship. This will encourage more girls from garment sector to realize their dreams of higher education and transform their lives.
