Garment workers suffering from illness were given financial assistance for medical treatment from the Central Fund created under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Meritorious children of apparel workers were also provided with scholarship from the fund.
Honorable State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian, MP handed over cheques to 97 garment workers and and scholarship to 82 students at a program organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment at BGMEA Complex on 9 April.
BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman presided over the cheque giving ceremony.
Labour Secretary Ummul Hasna, BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir, Director General of Bangladesh Workers' Welfare Foundation Dr. AMM Anisul Awal, and First Vice President of BKMEA Mansoor Ahmed were present at the program.
Garment factories are contributing 0.03% of their export value to the central fund to be used for workers’ welfare purposes.
