A delegation comprising officials from JTOP Co. Ltd (JTOP) and Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co. Ltd. (MURC) met with Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on March 12.

Representing JTOP Co. Ltd was Jiichi Nakaki, while Shoji Kita and Yasuko Hashimoto represented Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co. Ltd. (MURC) in the meeting.

The primary focus of the meeting was on exploring opportunities for collaboration to improve the environmental sustainability of the garment and textile sector in Bangladesh, particularly wastewater recycling to reduce environmental impact.

Discussions revolved around the potential implementation of JTOP's technologies and innovative solutions for treating wastewater from textile and dyeing factories to recyclable levels at a low cost, thereby reducing environmental pollution caused by industrial wastewater.

Their discussions also encompassed various topics, including wastewater regulation, the current situation in the textile and dyeing industry, installation of wastewater treatment plants in factories, the necessity of water recycling, and issues regarding land sinking.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan highlighted the commitment of Bangladesh’s RMG industry to continue strides in the area of environmental sustainability, strengthening the country’s position in the global apparel market as a safe and sustainable apparel sourcing destination.

He briefed the visiting delegation on the RMG industry's ongoing efforts to promote sustainability, including circularity and compliance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards across the manufacturing process.

He expressed BGMEA's openness to any initiatives and partnerships aimed at fostering a greener and more sustainable garment industry in Bangladesh.
