Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over group insurance cheques to the nominees of garment workers from the central fund created under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
A total of 200 nominees of the apparel workers who were injured or died during their service received the insurance cheques at a function organized by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at the Prime Minister’s Office on 27 August.
Honorable State Minister for Labour and Employment Md. Mujibul Haque attended the program as special guest while Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdury, FBCCI President Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) and Secretary-in-Charge of the Labour and Employment Ministry Afroza Kahn were present.
BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman presided over the cheque giving ceremony.
BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir conducted the program.
BGMEA First Vice President Moinuddin Ahmed, Senior Vice President Faruque Hassan, Vice President SM Mannan (Kochi), Vice President Md. Ferdous, former BGMEA Presidents, and BGMEA Directors were present on the occasion.
The Workers’ Welfare Fund has been established to use for workers’ welfare purposes, including payment of group insurance to workers’ nominees. Garment factories are contributing 0.03% of their export value to the central fund.
