Roundtable Discussion on Budget 2017-18 held

A roundtable discussion on the budget for FY 2017-18 was held in Dhaka on 8 June.
The Daily Prothom Alo and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) jointly organized the discussion at the newspaper 's office where different stakeholders took part to share their opinions on different aspects of the budget.
State Minister of Finance MA Mannan attended the discussion, while Vice President (Finance) of BGMEA Mohammed Nasir, distinguished Fellow of CPD Mustafizur Rahman, ICAB President Adeeb Hossain Khan FCA, Executive Director of Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), among others, were also present. 
Speaking at the program BGMEA Vice President (Finance) said that the garment industry of Bangladesh has been facing various challenges including increasing production cost, fall apparel prices in global markets, strong currency against dollar.
In this situation the one percent source tax on garment exports proposed in the budget for FY 2017-18 should be withdrawn.
He also said that the corporate tax needs to be brought down to 10 percent for five years, and five percent cash incentive on exports should be given to the sector for the next two years.
