A business delegation led by Sri Lankan Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama visited BGMEA and held a meeting with its leaders on October 11.
BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Vice President SM Mannan (Kochi) and Directors took part in the meeting and had discussion with the Sri Lankan delegation on avenues to explore mutual business opportunities, especially in textile and garment sectors.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Riaz Hamidullah and FBCCI President Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) were also present at the meeting.
Both sides said that Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have ample scope of working together to derive mutual business benefits in the apparel industry and agreed to extend cooperation in this regard.
They also discussed the feasibility of manufacturing apparel in Bangladesh and then export to Europe after adding values to the products in Sri Lanka. Export of the value-added garments via Sri Lankan sea ports will reduce lead time in product delivery. 
The Sri Lankan Minister invited Bangladeshi garment manufacturers to invest in Sri Lanka.
