Tapping the opportunity in Brazil

Broadening horizons in apparel export markets is one of the key priorities of the government and BGMEA.
BGMEA President Dr. Rubana Huq is now visiting Brazil along with Honorable Commerce Minister of Bangladesh Tipu Munshi, MP in a bid to explore every possible opportunity for Bangladesh apparel industry in gaining entry into the new market.
The team met with the Foreign Minister of Brazil, Chancellor Ernesto Araújo who assured that a bilateral agreement would be workable on an immediate basis.
The Honourable Commerce Minister stressed the need for lowering tariff through discussions with the Mercosur to reap mutual trade benefits. Mercosur is an economic and political bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela. However, Venezuela is barred from the bloc since 2016.
The team has been having meetings with the cotton growers’ association Abrapa, ministers of the Brazilian
Government and CNI, the apex body to coordinate local producers’ interest in growing through research and innovation.
